Two policemen, five others killed in Oyo auto crashes

OYO State experienced three fatal auto accidents on  Sunday and yesterday.Seven people, including two policemen, died while 17 others were injured.One of the incidents took place along Lagos-Ibadan Express Way while  the other was at Igboora-Iseyin Road and the last at Agugu area in Ibadan North East Local Government Area of the state.

The accident along Ibadan-Lagos Expressway occurred at Kilometre 18 and involved two vehicles, Toyota Highlander marked LJ 39 KJA and Toyota Camry with registration number APP 36 KA.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Oluyole Unit Commander, Sanya Adeoye, eight people were involved in the accident out of whom six people were injured.He said that the Toyota Highlander had its tyre burst leading to the driver’s loss of control, before it rammed into the Toyota Camry car.On the Igboora-Iseyin Road accident at Maya Village, five persons lost their lives early Sunday morning.

The accident involved a  Peugeot 504 saloon car going from Saki and a commercial bus going from Mushin to Iseyin. According to an eye witness, who spoke with the Nigerian Compass, the body of one of the victims, believed to be a national road union member, had been taken to Lagos for burial.

One of the victims of the Maya Village accident was a man believed to be an operator of a maternity home at Mokola area of Saki, simply identified as Saliu.He died on the spot. The cause of the accident was over speeding and dangerous driving, disclosing that the drivers of the vehicles died in the accident.

Those injured were taken to Iseyin General Hospital, while the families of those who lost their lives removed them from the scene of the accident.
