Nigerian football icons, Austin ‘JayJay’ Okocha and Kanu Nwankwo, have been announced as ambassadors for Star, the premium lager brand. The two Nigerian internationals were unveiled in Lagos on Tuesday during the introduction of Star Football, an innovative sports platform and social project established to celebrate Nigerian football fans.
The new platform, with the mantra #ShineOnNigeria, will allow millions of football lovers experience the game in an exciting and innovative way, share information, have access to live local and international matches, enjoy breaking news with football stars and so much more. “Football is my life and I couldn’t have gotten here without encouragement and support from the fans. It is an honour to associate with a notable brand like Star to reward our fans,” said Okocha.
Also sharing his excitement, Kanu said: “We commend Star for recognising the important role that fans play in supporting their team and look forward to working with Star to reward fans.” Walter Drenth, Marketing Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc said the company recognises that football is such an important part of Nigerians’ lives and also a source of national pride, which is why Star launched the #ShineOnNigeria project to propel Nigerian national team (Super Eagles) to victory in competitive football games.
To further demonstrate her support to the fans, Star is rolling out a nationwide cheer anthem competition where fans can send their celebratory messages to the national team.
