Joan Rivers’s final interview was released yesterday just hours after her death, in which she joked: ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead’. Speaking two days before she suffered cardiac arrest during surgery on her vocal cords, the veteran comedian revealed she still kept herself fit and healthy by using a treadmill and weights every day.
She said: ‘I’m that moron who always walks up the stairs – I won’t use the elevator’. I’ve had periods in my life when I wasn’t famous and no one would give me a show so now I never take a break. I’ll sleep when I’m dead.’
The star also spoke of how proud she was of her only daughter Melissa, who is understood to have had to take the agonising decision to turn off her mother’s life support machine on Thursday. The legendary comedienne was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital a week ago after going into cardiac arrest during an outpatient procedure on her vocal chords at another clinic.
