A personalised numberplate is one way to get your car noticed – covering it entirely in thousands of pounds worth of CRYSTALS is another. Russian student Daria Radionova has taken bling to another level by having her £25,000 Mercedes CLS 350 – numberplate BAII BYY – encrusted with one million Swarovski crystals.
The 21-year-old business student spent £20,000 jazzing up her 2011 motor – and marked the completion of the two month project by parking it outside the Levin Hotel near Harrods in Knightsbridge, London for the world to see. The car drew in crowds of admiring onlookers, while Daria also uploaded a photograph to instagram accompanied with the hashtags: ‘#crystal ‘crystalcar #knightsbridge #harrods and im not an #arab guy (sic)’.
“I wanted to have something unique and do something special,”she said. The people who did it came over from Russia and worked for 12 hours a day for two months on the car.I am really happy with it and I am looking forward to driving it around. It has only just been finished and everywhere I go people stop to have a look at it. t gets lots of attention from people walking by and in cars. Sometimes I think they might crash. Everyone is taking pictures of it. When I sell the car I will give the money to charity.”
An unnamed manager at Harrods said: “We have seen a lot of unusual cars like Ferraris parked outside but I think this one has got the most attention. If you have the cash why not do it? It looks good and fun.”
Knightsbridge is known for the supercars which wealthy motorists, often Arabs, bring to the area in their droves in the summer. A £370,000 six-wheeled Mercedes G63 AMG, a £1 million 220mph Pagani Huayra and a gold Range Rover are among the cars to have caught the eye already this year.
