Dajana Grkovic (r.) was stabbed by her twin sister Sara (l.) after a fight over a man
A Croatian model has been arrested and faces attempted murder charges after she stabbed her identical twin sister because she was jealous of her relationship with a man they both liked. Sara Grkovic, 22, and her twin sister Dajana Grkovic lived together with their mother in the northern Croatian port city of Rijeka where neighbours said they were always polite and friendly.
But police were called after hearing a violent row that ended with Sara plunging a kitchen knife into her twin sister leaving her critically injured and fighting for her life.
One neighbor told local TV: “They were always immaculately groomed and polite, and as alike as two peas in a pod. I never knew which one was passing me in the corridor but they always said hello.
“They were apparently arguing about a man that they both liked. He seems to have settled down in a relationship with Dajana and Sara was not happy about it. I never would have thought it would come to her trying to kill her sister though.”
She said that she did not often see the two girls together although they lived together, and thought that despite the fact they were identical twins there was an element of jealousy between the two over who was the more attractive, which seems to have spiralled out of control in the latest row.
She said: “Both of them were stunning, I don’t think they worried about competition from other women, but they were certainly jealous of each other.”
Dajana is currently in the intensive care ward at the local hospital with a deep wound to her chest and to her thigh although doctors said her condition was now stable.
Their divorced mother had apparently left them alone in the flat after going to Germany for work, and the father had had nothing to do with the two girls or his ex-wife after the divorce – including not paying any maintenance according to family friends.
