Late Halim Rita Awele, 200 level philosophy student
Students of the University of Benin, UNIBEN have been in sorrow and pain for the past two days after witnessing one of their own die after being hit by an army patrol van.
According to reports, an army vehicle written Thunder storm patrol 28, at about 10:15am on Sunday morning drove into 2 girls( Halim Rita Awele and Efe), who were crossing the road..from indications they were both coming from one of the hostels located beside Odaro plaza…After the accident one of the girls was lying on the ground, while the other girl the car hit first was inside a bush close to the road side, they were immediately rushed to the hospital.

An I.D card found in one of the girls bag, indicated the victim, Halim Rita was a 200 level philosophy student University of Benin. Rita didn’t make it through as she later gave up the ghost while her friend is responding to treatment.
The students of the institution have shut down major roads in the school and its environs in a massive protest to the death of their colleague…
The school authorities are yet to make an official statement.
Students led by the president of the Student Union Government, Comrade Omorogbe, are demanding for a pedestrian bridge across the road for students.
