Former President Goodluck Jonathan is currently in the United States of America (US) as a guest of the Presidential Precinct of Charlottesville, Virginia, which is a consortium uniting six American landmark institutions. Jonathan reportedly arrived in the US on Monday, November 9, 2015, and was accompanied to the institute by a delegation from the Nigerian Embassy in Washington. While there, Jonathan assured his hosts that African leaders are displaying more commitment to democracy and good governance.
The former Nigerian president was, in October, the leader of the Commonwealth Observer Group for the Tanzania elections.
Jonathan has also been chosen as the Commonwealth’s special representative to intervene in Zanzibar’s current political stalemate.
The former president attracted worldwide acclaim after he conceded defeat to incumbent, Muhammadu Buhari who won the country’s March 28 elections.
