Officers of the Nigerian police force have been banned from illegal accessing of mobile phones of citizens by the Inspector-general of police, Solomon Arase. In a circular issued by the IGP today, January 4, the IGP mandated the police officers to protect right of private and families.
The number police officer urged members of the public to contact @PoliceNG_CRU should any officer illegally search their phones. It has been reported that officers of the Nigerian police force in recent times have been engaging in illegal searching of citizens’ mobile phones despite properly identifying themselves.
Investigation by this newspaper revealed that the act is practiced by officers of the police force within the Lagos and Ogun state border towns in Ojodu, Ogba, Iju Alagbole, Akute and environs.
