The iconic unclad statue has received a makeover this year – meaning his muscles will look more toned, and his hair and jawline more refined.Oscar’s makeover is actually a return to his origins. The Academy swapped manufacturers after deciding to have the award cast in bronze, like the 1929 original, instead of pewter alloy – which is mostly made up of tin.

‘With the help of some 21st century technology, we’re able to honor the Oscars’ proud beginnings,’ said Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs in a statement.

‘The new statuette exemplifies impeccable craftsmanship and the enduring nature of art.’

Polich Tallix Fine Art Foundry in Rock Tavern, New York, has restored the ‘subtle features’ of the original designed by Cedric Gibbons and sculpted by George Stanley.
