Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki, attended his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) today with 90 lawyers and 12 senators. His trial commenced yesterday despite an attempt by his lawyers to stall it with an adjournment. The 90 lawyers were introduced by Saraki’s lead counsel, Kanu Agabi. The Senate President had appeared with 51 lawyers on Tuesday.
Some of the senators who accompanied Saraki to the trial are Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Sam Anyanwu, Dino Melaye and Andy Uba. The number of Saraki’s senator-escorts has reduced drastically since his appearance at the CCT with 81 of his colleagues in 2015. The Senate President is facing charges of asset declaration fraud before the CCT.
