During a programme organised by Channels Television to mark the first year anniversary of the current administration, the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will not release the names of persons who stole money from Nigeria’s coffers. Mohammed said that Buhari had earlier intended to release the names but had been advised not to do so. In his words:
“We will get the list but not today; before the end of the week. But I must say not with the names. Of course for obvious legal reasons. The president said he was going to release the amount recovered and where the recovered assets are,” Mohammed said.
“Yes he initially said so (naming looters), but he was advised against doing so for legal reasons. Of course, he has a right to reverse himself on that,” he added when queried on Buhari’s earlier promise to name the looters.
