A woman on holiday screamed “a croc’s got me” during a night time holiday swim inAustralia before vanishing in the water.The woman, aged 46, was swimming with her friend in the shallow water at Thornton Beach in the World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park in Queensland.Police Constable Russell Parker said: “Her 47-year-old friend tried to grab her and drag her to safety but she just wasn’t able to do that.”The incident took place 10.30pm last night.Mr Parker added that the two women were not locals.
He said that because of this they may not have known the waters were a crocodilehabitat. Officers have employed a helicopter at the scene which used thermal imaging to try and find the woman’s body.However the search was unsuccessful.A search operation will continue today.Reports initially named the missing woman as a British tourist, however it is now understood that she is from Lithgow in New South Wales.The victim’s friend was taken to hospital suffering from shock.Warren Enstch, who represents the area in the Australian Parliament, criticised the tourists for swimming in the waters.
