According to My Zimbabwe, a woman who was apparently missing her jailed husband, planned a daring entry into prison to meet him but it all went wrong. The woman succeeded in sneaking into a prison farm in Chiredzi, Zimbabwe, and was caught being intimate with her jailed husband. The ‘A’ class inmate at Chiredzi Prison used a smuggled mobile phone to communicate with his wife. ‘A’ class prisoners are those with short sentences or those who are left with a few months to freedom. They therefore perform duties where security is not tight including going to the fields and herding cattle.
The man identified as Trymore Ngwarati was caught with his wife in some bushes where they were caught by prison officers soon after having s*x. The wife, Memory Togarepi (27) was arrested and appeared before Chiredzi Magistrate Geraldine Mutsoto last Thursday facing a charge for Contravening Section 88 (1) of Prisons Act (Unlawful Communication with a Prisoner).
Prosecutor Doubt Phiri told the court that on April 17, 2016 at around 10am Ngwarati who is serving jail term for fraud communicated with Togarepi on the phone but their conversation was overheard by a son to one of the prison officers.
The couple agreed to meet at a place near Joko Bus Stop along Ngundu – Tanganda Road where Ngwarati was going to herd cattle. The two had a good time in a bush before prison officers Douglas Moyo and Muhondo Mufaro who were acting on a tip-off arrived and found the two. Magistrate Mutsoto convicted Togarepi and sentenced her to pay $120 fine failure of which she will serve 45 days imprisonment.
