As Jamie Foxx and Katie Holmes finally made their relationship public during a romantic beach stroll in Malibu, California.,it has been revealed the ex-wife of Tom Cruise made a hefty sum of money for keeping her relationship under wraps. Their display came shortly after the fifth anniversary of Katie’s divorce from Tom Cruise.
During the bitter battle over the couple’s £275million estate, Cruise reportedly enforced a watertight contract that banned Katie, 38, from mentioning their marriage or publicly dating for five years. A source claimed to Radar Online last year:
“She’s allowed to date, but she cannot do so in a public fashion, and she’s not supposed to let any boyfriend near their daughter, Suri.”
According to the Daily Mirror, agreeing to the clause reportedly netted Katie £3.6million in child support and £3.8million for herself. That was on top of the £40million prenuptial agreement Katie drew up with the help of her lawyer father, in which she pocketed £2million for every year of their five-year marriage as well as a trust fund for 11-year-old Suri.
The settlement also reportedly contained “iron-clad” rulings that Suri would not be made a member of the controversial Church of Scientology, where Tom holds a high rank. Katie has sole custody, and Tom has reportedly not seen or spoken to his daughter in more than three years.
A year after her divorce , Katie secretly started dating Oscar winner Jamie, 49, in August 2013 after they performed together at a charity gala in New York. However, she had first been introduced to him at a football game seven years earlier – by Tom,who had become friends with the Ray actor on the set of 2004 film Collateral.
