A 33-year-old woman, Toscha Sponsler, who was arrested, seat-belted and handcuffed in the back of a police car for shoplifting set herself free and escaped with the SUV as officers were busy going through her bags of stolen goods. Several officers ran after the vehicle, but a 23-minute car pursuit ensued as officers tried to get her off the road. Sponsler crashed the vehicle in someone’s yard where she got arrested again after an officer broke the driver’s side window and dragged her out the SUV.
