Arsenal are considering a sensational January swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez and PSG star Julian Draxler. But the transfer fell through when they failed to wrap up the signing of Monaco’s Thomas Lemar as a £90m replacement. AC Milan have already shown interest in landing Sanchez in the next transfer window.
But boss Arsene Wenger is understood to be seriously considering a swap deal with PSG, having been a long-standing fan of 24-year-old German Draxler. And the French giants are believed to be tempted by the idea, even though Draxler only joined them in January.
He scored in Saturday’s 6-2 demolition of Bordeaux and would be a like-for-like replacement for Sanchez. But while Sanchez, 28, has at times proved a difficult character to handle for Wenger, Draxler is seen as a trouble-free substitute.
Sanchez has cut an isolated figure on occasions this season but has continued to give his all on the pitch, contributing a goal and two assists in seven appearances. In January, with his contract up at the end of the season, he is free to talk to any foreign club and it now looks certain he will not sign a new deal with the Gunners.
