The year 2014 was a year that Adaora Okoli will never forget any time soonest. It was the year that changed her life forever. A patient suffering from Ebola has checked into the hospital where she was working and in the process of treating the patient, she got infected with the deadly disease.
She did not know if she would live or die. “You don’t know if it’s going to end with your death,” she said.
But as luck will have it, she survived.
Ever since the unexpected turn of things, she has dedicated her life to the research, treatment, and prevention of future epidemics, studying at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
On Thursday, she was named as one of Bill Gates‘ 5 “Heroes in the Field.”
Dr Adaora Okoli was also featured on TIME magazine, where she shared her story to the world.
