Deji Tinubu Dies

Lagos state governor, Akinwumi Ambode’s Special Adviser on Sports, Deji Tinubu is dead. The deceased reportedly died on Thursday during a novelty match in the Epe area of Lagos State, where Lagos State Executive members and other top government functionaries are hosted for a retreat.

Deji Tinubu, who was the former Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission, slumped in the field and was confirmed dead at a hospital in Epe. A source who witnessed the sad incident, said

“He slumped while playing football this evening at Retreat with Governor in Epe, took to the Charlet clinic but was later rushed to the General Hospital in EPE when condition didn’t improve…. unfortunately, we lost Uncle Deji Tinubu is gone.”

The deceased is the 5th left in the photo above which was taken few minutes before he slumped. Deji Tinubu is remembered for pushing for the approval of five schools competitions by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, which held in November and December in Lagos.

Although no official statement from Lagos State as at press time last night, his family and associates in sports circle confirmed his death.

Sadly, Tinubu was certified healthy during the screening carried out before the start of the novelty game aimed at ensuring none of the government officials had such misfortune. Until his death thursday, Tinubu was Gov Ambode’s special adviser on commerce. He was moved from sports to commerce during the cabinet shake up carried out just recently.

May his soul rest in peace.
