Bradley Lowery’s mum has shared an emotional photo of the final time she bathed with her son as she faces her first Mother’s Day with him. Gemma Lowery said she was ‘heartbroken’ to be spending the day without her little boy, who passed away in July aged 6 after battling Neuroblastoma since he was 18 months old.
The courageous little boy fought the cancer for most of his short life, becoming a national hero in the process. Gemma said: ‘I can’t put a brave face on today, I can’t be strong today I’m heartbroken and my grief is hurting me so bad. ‘This is my first Mother’s Day away from my baby boy and it’s painful and I miss him so so much.’
The beautiful picture shows her holding Bradley as they have a bath together, one which she knew would be their last. Along with the heartbreaking black and white image, she wrote: ‘This photo that I have used in this post is a hard one to see and not everyone will agree with me putting it on but this is reality,’ she wrote.
‘Bradley asked for a bath with me, I knew it would be our last ever bath. I don’t want a parent to ever have to do this.’ She added: ‘A photo I will treasure till I meet with my baby Again. Knowing this was my last bath with my hero was heartbreaking, Bradley was born into the world in water and I think it was his way of saying he was going out the world the same way’
