A mother and two of her kids have been killed in a road accident in Bayelsa State.The incident occurred on Thursday on the Isaac Boro Expressway, Yenagoa, the state capital.
The accident reportedly involved a Toyota Sienna, with the number plate ACA 644 AA, and a tricycle, with the number plate Yen 828 WC
The rider of the tricycle, identified only as Kingsley, and the father of the deceased children, were said to be in a coma at a hospital.
It was learnt that the driver of the Toyota Sienna, who was coming from the Ox-bow Lake end of the road, lost control due to speeding.
The driver reportedly rammed into the waiting tricycle on the other side of the road, killing the woman and her two children on the spot.
Sympathisers, who thronged the scene of the accident around 10am on Thursday, created a traffic jam and had to be dispersed by armed policemen deployed in the scene.
A witness, who did not want to be identified, told PUNCH Metro that the deceased woman and her children died on the spot.
“Their corpses were deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, by a police patrol team,” he added.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the tragedy.
The spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, also confirmed the accident.
“A mother and her two children were killed, while the rider of the tricycle is in a coma,” he said.
