Donald Trump Cancels Summit With North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un

Donald Trump has canceled his planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The president made the announcement in a letter addressed to Kim Thursday, saying his country’s ‘tremendous anger’ and ‘open hostility’ towards the United States in a recent statement had forced him to cancel.

He took action after North Korea’s vice foreign minister Choe Son Hui called US Vice President Mike Pence ‘stupid and ignorant’ for warning the dictatorship could end-up like war-torn Libya. Trump also issued a veiled threat to Kim, saying: ‘You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray they will never be used.’

Trump’s letter also conceded that the pair had made progress, thanked him for releasing American hostages in North Korea, and said he hoped they could rearrange the meeting for a later date. He tweeted a copy of it shortly after 11am EST, and spelt the North Korean leader’s name wrong, writing: ‘Sadly, I was forced to cancel the Summit meeting in Singapore with Kim Jung uN.’
