A young boy identified as Okoro Chigozie, a JSS 2 student of Anglican Grammar School, Ondo was allegedly abandoned by his biological father at Faith Motors, when he came with him to Benin city, Edo state. According to reports, the confused minor was walking aimlessly to unknown destination before he was rescued by a good Samaritan and brought to Okhuare Police Divisional Headquarters.
The DPO transferred him to Family Unit, State Police Command Headquarters on the 23rd day of May, 2018 under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
According to Human rights activist, Kola Edokpayi, rather than take him to the appropriate authority in charge of the welfare of children for Protective custody, the police put the boy in the State CID cell like a criminal before the attention of the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Commissioner of Police were called as they intervened immediately which led to the release of the minor after spending close to one week in the cell.
He was released to the Child Protection Officer of Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Comrade Agugu Ehis on the 31st day of May, 2018 as efforts are being ,made to locate his family.
