Footage has emerged of the moment at grandmother apparently let her grandchildren out of dog kennels in the back of her vehicle. Leimome Cheeks, 62, has been charged with two counts of child endangerment after the children, aged seven and eight, were released. There were no air conditioning vents in the back of the vehicle and the children told police they became hot. Temperatures in the area reached around 35°C. A police report said that the children said they were told to get into the kennels because there wasn’t enough room for them to sit in the main part of the vehicle.
Cheeks was being held Sunday in the Shelby County Jail. Jail records didn’t indicate whether Cheeks has an attorney who can comment on the charges.
