A 48-year-old man, Tajudeen Adefioye, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defiling his daughter. The drunken Adefioye on May 18, 2018, returned home around 11.30pm and allegedly raped the 10-year-old.
It was gathered that when he attempted to have sex with her again on May 27, 2018, she ran out of the house.
The girl was said to have informed neighbours, who called the police.
One of the neighbours, Bolanle Ndukwe, said, “On the night of the incident, someone told me that a girl was outside my house and when I asked her what she was doing outside at that time, she told me that her father wanted to have sex with her. She said it was not the first time.
“I called two other neighbours to go with me to meet her father and when we met him, he denied what the girl said and we took him to one of the community leaders, who called the police.”
But the widower and father of three said the allegation was false.
He said his children had been in his custody since their mother died in 2017.
Adefioye was, however, arraigned on Monday before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court on one count bordering on defilement.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and elected summary trial.
The magistrate, Mr P.E. Nwaka, adjourned the case till July 4, 2018.
