Ed Sheeran has taken to Instagram to pay a heartfelt tribute to a young fan named Melody, who died after suffering from an incurable illness. Ed and Melody Driscoll met back in 2016 when her story touched his heart and he decided to visit her. They then reconnected at a meet and greet at a gig when he played the O2 Arena. The 11-year-old suffered from Rett syndrome, which affects the brain’s development, making her unable to walk or talk. She sadly passed away in her parent’s arms. Taking to Instagram to pay tribute to his little superfan, Ed shared a picture of the pair of them together, with the message: ‘Rest in peace beautiful Melody.’
In March the singer got involved in her plight as the hospital where she was being treated had decided to withdraw pain relief for fears it would damage her liver.
Following her death, her parents, Karina, 35, and step-dad Nigel told the Croydon Advertiser that the beautiful little girl was a ‘living angel’ and would ‘smile through the worst pain.’ Karina said: ‘Her heart kept beating right to the end. She loved life, she was a living angel. ‘Even in her worst pain she would smile. ‘She was the most amazing and beautiful little girl that there could ever be.’ She added: ‘Everyone that saw her smile fell in love with her…I can’t bear the thought of not seeing her smile again.’
