Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender, Ray Emery who played for NHL, The Chicago Blackhawksand Ottawa Senators has died after he drowned while swimming in his hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, on Sunday. He was 35.According to the Hamilton Police Department, Emery was reported missing just after 6 a.m. Sunday in Hamilton Harbour, which is on the western tip of Lake Ontario.
The authorities confirmed they recovered his body about 2:50 p.m. He was last seen in Lake Ontario’s Hamilton Harbor about 6 a.m., when police responded to reports of a possible drowning.
Jackie Penman of Hamilton police in a statement said the “Cause of death will be confirmed pending a post-mortem.”
His former club, The Blackhawks also released a statement: “The Chicago Blackhawks organization was deeply saddened to hear of Ray Emery’s passing. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. The Blackhawks will fondly remember Ray as a fierce competitor, a good teammate and a Stanley Cup champion.”
Fans, former teammates, coaches and others in the hockey community has taken to social media to mourn the late Ice Hockey star.
