Aretha Franklin’s funeral will be held on 31 August in her hometown of Detroit, her publicist has confirmed. The Queen of Soul passed away on Thursday, aged 76, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Her funeral will be held at Greater Grace Temple, which boasts 600 members and a 90-year history, but the service will be restricted to the late entertainer’s family and friends. The service will follow a two-day public viewing of her casket, and her body will be entombed at a family grave site, relatives have announced.
On both days, fans will be able to pay their respects from 9.00 am. to 9.00 pm. Following the funeral service on the 31st, the mother-of-four will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery.
