The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a suspected motorcycle thief around the General Hospital, Suleja, in the Suleja Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, Celestine Eze, 32, was arrested for allegedly robbing one Ibrahim Gajere of Fadama Suleja of his Bajaj motorcycle.
It was learnt that the suspect was seen loitering around the hospital premises suspiciously before he was arrested by police detectives.
Northern City News gathered on Tuesday that the suspect sneaked into the hospital and pretended to be a patient.
Checks revealed that the suspect came all the way from Airport Road, Abuja to carry out his criminal act in Suleja.
The suspect told our correspondent that inability to pay his house rent made him to steal the motorcycle.
“Things are really tough for me to the extent that I could no longer afford my house rent and there is no job anywhere. The frustration was much, hence I resorted to stealing. Honestly it was bad,” he said.
The suspect, who hailed from the South-East, said, “Since I came to Abuja, I have been struggling to do something reasonable to help myself but nothing worked; rather it got worse every day and it looked as if I had sinned against my destiny. I am not a criminal, but the condition I found myself made me to steal.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying that the motorcycle was recovered from the suspect.
Abubakar said the matter would be charged to court after investigation.
