The family of a cook, Joseph Otoibhi, in the Jakande area of Lagos State has been thrown into mourning after he was killed by some unidentified men.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Joseph was returning home last Wednesday around 10pm when he was hacked down with a machete.
Joseph’s sister, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of security reasons, told our correspondent that the family was surprised because Joseph did not interact with people on the street.
She said, “He came to my shop and left before me. He was about climbing the staircase when he was attacked, he tried to escape but he could not make it.
“I was on my way home when I heard a gunshot; when I got home, my mother asked me where my brother was and I told her that he left me in the shop.
“We checked his room but he was not there. We went downstairs to look for him and people told us that they heard him shouting for help and when we looked around, we saw his corpse on the ground.
“My brother is a gentle person; he avoided fighting with people. He did not even have time; whenever he came back from work, he would relax in my shop and later go home. He did not have any girlfriend.”
Joseph’s sister added that the family had moved out of the house for fear of being attacked since the killers were yet to be apprehended.
It was gathered that the matter had been reported at the Ilasan Police Station and was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said he would get back to our correspondent.
