A terminally ill father got his final wish to escort his daughter down the aisle for her wedding day. Pedro Villarin was bedridden after a year of battling advanced liver cancer, but his last wish was to see Charlotte get married. So the 65-year-old summoned up the strength to make it to her big day, which had to be brought forward by two months, on August 9.
His family hired an ambulance and private nurse to take him to the ceremony in Las Pinas, Manila, Philippines. The dying father held his daughter’s hand as relatives pulled a stretcher to the altar where she married Mark Cordova. Newlywed Charlotte said: ‘This was really an emotional moment. My father’s one wish was to see his daughter married and we made it come true for him. ‘It made the day very bitter-sweet. It hurt me knowing that he would be leaving us but I was happy that he was there. I am happy he could see me get married.’
Sharing a photograph of her kissing her father during the wedding on social media, Ms Villarin said: ‘Papu, I love you so much.’ She added: ‘It was really painful but knowing that he left this world, fulfilling his dream, I’m happy already no matter what.’
He tragically died three days after the wedding
