The incident took place in the Imiringi area of the Ogbia Local Government in Bayelsa State. The foundation said the two rescued children were serially abused and assaulted by their mother, who escaped arrest after the victims were rescued.

Speaking to journalists, the Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Sagbama branch, Dise Ogbise-Erhisere, said the mother of the children had on several occasions, according to neighbours assaulted her children with impunity.

Ogbise-Erhisere said, “A concerned neighbour intervened, but was injured in the process by the mother of the children. The woman threw a big stone at him, causing injury to the eyes of the man, as well as severe pain.

“However, the man has reported the matter to the police but the woman escaped before the policemen could reach the scene of crime.”

Ogbise-Erhisere said she had taken the children away, adding that they had stayed with neighbours for two days and looked unkempt and sick.
