Abia Warriors players and officials escaped an armed robbery attack on Saturday on their way to Lagos for the Aiteo Cup Group C clashes, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The armed robbery attack, CSN learnt, took place along Lagos- Ibadan express way on Saturday afternoon.
The players and the officials were travelling from their base in Umuahia when the incident happened.
“At about 2:45 pm, earlier today, Abia Warriors team travelling to Lagos for their Aiteo Cup round of 16 games ran into a group of some dare devil armed robbers operating along the Lagos-Ibadan express way but by God’s Grace the team escaped though some players in an to jump down from the vehicle sustained injuries and have been treated by the medics,” reads a statement by the club’s media officer, Igwe Onuoha.
Emmanuel Deutsch’s men will face fellow Nigeria Professional Football League sides; Kano Pillars, Kwara United and Rivers United in Group C at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.
