The Cross River State Government has welcomed the birth of the first In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) baby in the State as the State commissions its first IVF center.
Speaking during the commissioning, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, pointed that the Governor Ayade led administration is constantly on the move to bring global best practices in healthcare delivery to the state.
In Vitro Fertilisation is a process of fertilisation where an egg is combined with sperm outside the body, in vitro. The process involves monitoring and stimulating a woman’s ovulatory process, removing an ovum or ova from the woman’s ovaries and getting it fertilised in a laboratory.
The center is the Baby Mother of Mercy Specialist Clinic located in Ekorinim axis of the Calabar metropolis, owned by Dr. Charles Njoku, a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.
The Cross River State Govt. is also creating more awareness on this medical breakthrough for the benefit of those eligible.
The parents of the child, Mr/Mrs Okunsaka, have been married for five years without a child until IVF in January 2018.
