Nigeria’s D’Tigress made history on Tuesday qualifying for the knockout round of the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Tenerife, Spain for the first time after defeating Argentina 70-75 in their final group B encounter at the San Cristobal de la Laguna court on Tuesday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
It was the second win for the D’Tigress’ at the tournament after they defeated Turkey 74-68 on Sunday.
The D’Tigress won the first quarter 19-13 but the Argentines clawed their way back into the game to win the second quarter 16-13. Scores were even at 19-19 in the third quarter but a late drop shot from Ezinne Kalu saw Nigeria nick a crucial point to win the nervy encounter.
D’Tigress had an insane 24 offensive rebounds with former Dallas Wings forward Evelyn Akhator bagging a double recording 13 points and ten rebounds.
It was Akhator’s second double in consecutive games for the D’Tigress.
D’Tigress will face Greece in the quarter-final qualifiers on Wednesday in a bid to book their place in the next round.
