The governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, was delayed for hours following a serious traffic gridlock while he was on his way to a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.
It was gathered that the governor was traveling to Abuja along with his entourage to discuss important matter as it concerns the flood that has ravaged communities and the terrible nature of roads in the state before he met a traffic jam at Jamata axis of the Abuja-Lokoja highway, according to a report by Petra Akinti Onyegbule, Chief Press Secretary to Kogi State Governor.
The protest was ignited after a military man allegedly shot the tyres of a truck. In solidarity, other truck drivers quickly mobilised and used their vehicles to block both sides of the highway, bringing traffic to a halt and commuters stranded for hours.
In the spirit of comradeship, other trailers in solidarity began to block the highway with their vehicles thereby causing traffic discomfort to commuters.
On getting to the scene, the governor alighted from his car, listened to what happened, calmed the situation down.
It took the intervention of the Governor who spent over an hour at the site of the incident to solve the situation and bring normalcy to the highway.
The governor used the opportunity to call for understanding amongst road users and security operatives to always try and resolve issues they may have amicably, He resolved the issue before proceeding to Abuja where he met the President in Aso Rock.
