War Machine, the former MMA fighter spending life behind bars for brutally attacking his porn star ex-girlfriend when he found her in bed with another man, issued a groveling apology to her this week in a lengthy interview where he described how Jesus had saved him.
The 36-year-old is in prison in Nevada for beating Mack, 27, and Corey Thomas in bed together in Las Vegas in August 2014. He beat Mack so badly that by the time police found her, she had no teeth and had been sexually assaulted.
In an interview with filmmaker John Bravo on Wednesday, Machine, who has since married a prison pen pal, said he ‘hated’ who he used to be and asked for his ex’s forgiveness.
‘I hate who I used to be.
‘There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t regret that and I hate it.
‘Nobody hates me as much as I hate the man that I used to be.
‘From the bottom of my heart I apologize to Christy. I’m sorry, Christy. I’m sorry for what happened,’ he said.
To Thomas, who abandoned Christy to be beaten and brutalized by the professional fighter to save himself, he said: ‘Corey you know, you were in the wrong place at the wrong time. I pray for you too, I pray for all you guys.’
He added that while he used to blame his ex-girlfriend for his unfathomable violence, he realizes now that he drove her to cheat on him with his ‘constant’ mistreatment.
‘In the beginning, before I found God, it was all her fault. ;Once I found God, my eyes were opened. ‘I had to look at that night with the truth of the eyes of Jesus. I put that man in my bed with my constant cheating, constant abuse, constant just neglect. I put that guy in my bed.
‘I created that situation. I was a big old hypocrite and I ended up hurting someone that I love,’ he said.
Machine made an impassioned plea to his remaining fans to not idolize his behavior and instead try to find God themselves.
‘I really appreciate all the love and support but I just hope none of you look up to the old me.
‘It kills me inside that you guys are still in love with the guy I was, with that alpha male s**t. All the anarchy, all the BS that I used to live.
‘I don’t want you guys to like that. I want you to realize that what I was was bogus and worthless. ‘I want you to learn about the person I am now and avoid my mistakes. I hope you guys don’t idolize too much the person I was. ‘See Jesus, he’s real. He’ll change your life, I promise you,’ he said.
Machine does not credit prison with changing his life, explaining that he’d been in and out of custody before he nearly killed Mack with his beating.
