Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino has posted a message on Instagram to update fans on the severity of his eye injury. The Brazilian’s second half strike helped Liverpool make it five wins from five with a 2-1 victory against Tottenham.

The forward was then forced off the field after a clash with Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian appeared to accidentally swipe at Firmino and pictures later revealed that his finger gouged his eye.

“I’m not sure, but there may be an injury with Roberto, we don’t know exactly in the moment,” said Klopp.

“I didn’t see it back. I only saw the situation from around 60 yards. I have no clue what exactly happened.

“But it’s something with the eye and for sure in the moment it’s not comfortable for him. We will see.”

After examinations at Moorfields Eye Hospital, Firmino confirmed he was making a positive recovery.

“It was a scare, my eye is ok and so am I. Thank you for all the support and see you soon. #YNWA”

Firmino’s wife, Larissa Pereira also gave Liverpool fans some hope that her husband maybe back in time for the Champions League clash with PSG.

Her Instagram message translates to: “People are leaving news in the press that does not precede. “At first this is okay with Roberto, he has already been examined and is returning home, thank you for the concern of everyone.”
