Piers Morgan Claims Tess Holliday’s Cosmopolitan Cover Glorifies Obesity

Piers Morgan has taken issue with the latest Cosmopolitan cover, which features plus-size model Tess Holliday. The 33-year-old model poses on a green swimsuit on the October issue of Cosmo, and looks totally banging. The magazine is being praised for featuring Tess – who is a UK size 20 – on their cover, with many people calling the shoot groundbreaking. However, the cover has had many detractors too – including Piers Morgan. The Good Morning host shared the cover to Instagram, and wrote: ‘As Britain battles an ever-worsening obesity crisis, this is the new cover of Cosmo.

‘Apparently we’re supposed to view it as a “huge step forward for body positivity”. What a load of old baloney. ‘This cover is just as dangerous & misguided as celebrating size zero models.’

The reaction to Piers’ post was mixed – many people agreed with the 53-year-old in the comments section, calling Tess’s size ‘unhealthy’. One comment read: ‘It’s just one extreme to the other neither are healthy so what’s wrong with putting healthy sized models on magazine covers.’

Others called Piers out for ‘fat-shaming’; one person wrote: ‘I’m a size 18 im happy and healthy. I choose to be this size. Iv been a size 6/8 and got critised then, everyone saying i looked ill. Cant win what ever we look like [sic].’

Tess has since responded to Piers, tweeting:

‘To everyone saying I’m a burden to the British health care system, I’m American so you don’t have to worry about my fat ass. Worry about what horrible people you are by whining about how me being on the cover of a glossy magazine impacts your small minded life.’
