2018 AWCON: Dennerby Drops 14 Players as Super Falcons Intensifies Training

Super Falcons head coach Thomas Dennerby has dropped 14 players from the 29 home-based players in camp ahead of the 11th Women Africa Cup of Nations finals holding in Ghana reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

 

The Super Falcons team has been training at the impressive Jubilee Chalets & Resort Epe, Lagos.

Among those retained in camp for the second phase camping which will commence immediately are four goalkeepers- Toochukwu Oluehi, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Christy Ohiaeriaku, and Onyinyechukwu Okeke.

 

Others are Anam Imo, Rasheedat Ajibade, Peace Efih, Glory Ogbonna, Chioma Wogu, Alice Ogebe, Amarachi Okoronkwo and Chidinma Okeke. Also retained are Ugochi Emenayo, Sarah Nnodim, and Nneka Julius.

 

Players retained will be joined by the foreign-based players for the team’s second camping phase in Epe, Lagos according to a media statement from the Nigerian Football Federation.

 

The team will start their second phase training today (Monday) with the foreign-based players like Assisat Oshoala, Onome Ebi, Francisca Ordega and Desire Oparanozie expected to join the team.

 

The Super Falcons have been drawn alongside perennial rivals, South Africa, Kenya and Zambia in group B of the forthcoming 11th Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nation taking place in Ghana.

 

They will open will face South Africa’s Bayana Bayana in their opening game on November 18 in Cape Coast before facing Kenya and Zambia in the other group B games.

 

The tournament will kick off from the 17th November to the 1st December 2018 and it will be hosted in two cities, Accra and the Cape Coast.

 

In group A, 2016 finalists, Cameroon will battle hosts nation, Ghana, Mali and Algeria for the two available qualification spot in the group.

 

The Total Women’s Africa Cup of Nation is been staged in Ghana for the first time and it will serve as the African qualifiers for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

 

The top three teams will qualify for the group stages of the competition in France next summer from June 7 to July 7, 2019.
