Suspected robbers detained in the police cell in Lagos have shown their criminal skills after they robbed at the police station and eventually escaped with the loot.
The incident reportedly happened at about 10pm at the Ashamu Police Station located at Bucknor Estate in Ejigbo, Lagos, while the officers were on duty.
The identity of the robbers that escaped were not yet known as the police took the suspects for granted not knowing they were hardened criminals and fearless.
It was gathered that after the suspects damaged the police cell, they also vandalised a Toyota Camry car with registration number, LSR 412 AC; loosed the brain box worth thousands of Naira and escaped. The car belonged to one woman, Aderieje Rita.
How the suspects managed to overpower the police remained a surprise to many who heard about the incident in the area. Some said may be the officers on duty on that day were sleeping or drunk.
However, one of the suspects, one Dikachi Onyeze, was later arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates court for conspiracy and stealing with others at large. He pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, asked the court for a date for trial since he pleaded not guilty.
Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, granted Onyeze bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. He was remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect the bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 29th October, 2018.
