Rampaging gunmen in their dozens stormed and attacked Gurbin Bore village of Zurmi Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State last Friday killing no fewer than six people including a policeman.

The gunmen also caused wanton destruction in the village by setting ablaze at least 15 shops and 13 vehicles during their over two hours nefarious act. A survivor, Alhaji Manir Salihu, said he was relaxing around the town market square when the assailants stormed the village and began shooting.

He said the gunmen opened fire on his car, which was parked close to where he sat, shattering the windscreen and glasses.

“I was lucky because I crawled unnoticed. I believe that if they had seen me they would have shot me dead but thank God I am alive today,” he said.

The Vice Chairman, Zurmi LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran described the attack as unfortunate. The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Zamfara State Police Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, confirmed the attack.

He said: “About 21:15 hours, unidentified armed men numbering about 100 suspected to have come from Dumburum forest attacked Gurbin Bore Village and engaged the combined teams of Counter Terrorist, Police Mobile Force and FSARS personnel stationed in the village.

“Sadly enough, six persons including a serving police Corporal attached to Gurbin Bore police outpost lost their lives. Three injured persons were conveyed to hospital for treatment. However, 11 vehicles including police vehicle, three motorcycles and five kiosks were set ablaze by the hoodlums.”
