Riyad Mahrez missed a late penalty for Manchester City who forced Liverpool to a goalless draw at Anfield in Sunday’s English Premier League clash.
Mahrez blazed his penalty kick over the bar after Virgil van Dijk was adjudged to have fouled Leroy Sane in the box.
The stalemate means Manchester City have failed to win a game at Liverpool in the Premier League for 15 years.
It also means that Manchester City and Liverpool join Chelsea on 20 points at the top of the table heading into the two-week international break.
The game didn’t live up to its billing as there was no shot on target in the game until the 62nd minute of the encounter.
Mohammed Salah and Georginio Wijnaldum had attempts on goal but none troubled Ederson Santana de Moraes in goal for Manchester City.
Manchester City will return to Premier League action with a home game against Burnley on Saturday, 20 October, the same day, Liverpool faces a trip to Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium in the evening kick-off.
