A man will spend almost four years in prison after planting two bombs in the car of his ex-girlfriend’s husband in an attempt to frame him as a terrorist.

Riyaz Khan, 27, planted the two firework bombs because he was angry that his ex had started another relationship and got married, Leicester Crown Court in London was told.

He also planted sickening child porn images on a USB memory stick in the car in an effort to frame the husband.

Police described one of explosive devices as “viable”, being made from fireworks, and say both were capable of “doing harm”.

The second package – which smelt of petrol and had fireworks attached – could also cause destruction, police said.

The discovery, made on June 4, led the Leicester Police bomb squad to close off the city’s Huntingdon Road for nine hours.

Khan was arrested on the same day.

On Thursday Khan was jailed for three years and nine months and slapped with a restraining order banning him from contacting his ex-partner or her family.

At a previous hearing on October 5, Khan, of Gilbert Close, Leicester, had pleaded guilty to three counts of stalking, two of which caused fear of violence or serious alarm and distress.

He also pled guilty to criminal damage and perverting the course of justice.

The court heard how Khan had displayed controlling behaviour towards his ex-partner during their relationship and made threats towards her parents.

He also monitored his former girlfriend’s social media accounts and contacting her at all times of the day and night.

When she married he would drive by their home and follow the couple around.

Witnesses said he was angry about the relationship and was intending to set the victim up by planting a device in his car.
