A 30-year-old man identified as Mr. Nwachukwu Benjamin who was apprehended for defiling a 10-year-old girl in Benin city, Edo state, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to reports.
The suspect was handed the jail sentence at the Benin High Court on Friday, October 5th (yesterday).
The case made headlines in June after it was reported that the alleged rapist’s family vowed to use their wealth to ensure his freedom before he was later released on bail after his initial arrest.
Civil rights activist; Israel Joe who shared the news – claimed that the case was allegedly compromised by the investigating police officer IPO as he called on the state governor, Godwin Obaseki and other agencies to look into the issue, before justice was gotten yesterday.
