A 40-year-old man, Olubunmi Ayan, has been sentenced to two years imprisonment for posting the nude pictures of his former lover, Monica Arare, on Facebook in Ekiti State…
Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, yesterday, also fined the convict N500,000 and ordered the police to arrest anyone who harassed the victim as a result of Ayan’s conviction.
The suit, FHC/AD/17c/2017, was between Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami (SAN), and Ayan.
Counsel to the AGF, Mrs. Oyewole, told the court that Ayan had threatened to post Arare’s nude pictures on the social media sometimes in 2017, when the lady told him she was no longer interested in the relationship.
According to the counsel, Arare, a single lady, had pleaded with Ayan, who is married and has children, not to carry out his threat. Oyewole said the convict then requested N200,000 as inducement for him to rescind his decision.
Ayan, however, posted her nude pictures when she could not give him the money.
Taiwo revealed that he had been lenient in sentencing Ayan as the punishment for his crime attracted a fine of N7 million and three-year jail term, according to the Cyber Crime Act.
The judge, however, regretted that the law did not make provisions for compensation for victims. He therefore advised that such provision should be made by the lawmakers in a future exercise in amending the laws.
