Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen says his goal for his Belgian club, Sporting Charleroi, in their 2-1 league defeat at Cercle Brugge on Friday night is not a source of happiness because of the result, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Osimhen, a loanee from German side Wolfburg, netted his third goal in all competitions for Sporting Charleroi – his second in the league, when he bagged the equaliser in the 32nd minute following Dylan De Belder’s curtain raiser for the home side.

An own goal netted by Francisco Martosin in the second half did Charleroi in and they left Jan Breydel Stadium Brugges in disappointed for throwing away an opportunity to earn at least a point.

Goal scorer, Osimhen, was asked at the post match interview session how he felt scoring in the match but ending on the losing side through an own goal by his teammate.

The former Nigeria youth international admits that getting on the scoresheet is pleasing, but losing the same match is disappointing.

“The goals are always important and I’m happy to have scored, but this result obviously does not please me. It was not what we had planned, but it’s football, ” Osimhen told Belgian newspaper Le Soir.

“We gave everything, but it was not enough to take the points, but we will continue to work, to do better in the next game .”

Osimhen admits that he and teammates could have performed better to secure an away point or three from the match, but must now take away a good lesson and do the job better next time.

“I think the coach saw the problem. We especially have bad luck on the own-goal. For the rest, we will analyse this game and use it as a lesson for the future. There will necessarily be a lot of things to fix,” The Super Eagles’ fringe forward remarked.

Prompted further to react on the observation that Charleroi attackers found it difficult to play cohesively against Cercle Brugge, which was not an issue in the Zebras’ previous games, Osimhen reiterates that it was an unlucky day for the team.

“I tried to find Adama but unfortunately did not succeed. The match was complicated for everyone. We will try to come out positive,” he concluded.
