In addition, Brighton look to move above West Ham, while Tottenham should dole out more misery to Cardiff City

The eighth round of action in the FA Premier League promises to be a tense one, with the two early season pace setters, Liverpool and Manchester City, locking horns this coming Sunday afternoon (7 October).  As well as the main event, Brighton could move above West Ham when they meet, and Tottenham will be looking to climb the standings at Cardiff’s expense.

Where should I be investing my money?

First up, Brighton will try and stop the rot against a rapidly improving West Ham side. The Seagulls have come up against Manchester City and Tottenham in their last two matches and lost to both, slipping down to 15th place in the process – Brighton have won just once in the league all season, although that victory did come against Manchester United.

West Ham, by way of comparison, are finally picking up form under veteran boss Manuel Pellegrini. The Hammers are unbeaten in their last three, including a win themselves over Manchester United as well as an 8-0 mauling of Macclesfield Town in the League Cup.

Despite their faltering form, it is Brighton who come in as the favourites to wrap up the points. You can back the home side to wrap up victory at 2.62, with West Ham only slightly higher at 2.90 – a draw comes in at 3.30, according to Oddsshark.

But with their improvement over recent weeks, we fancy West Ham to take the points here. A 2-1 win for the away side is priced at 11.00, thereby offering you more than a ten-fold return on any investment – in addition, you could more than double your money by backing over 2.5 goals in the game at 2.07.

Tottenham looking for third straight league win

After a minor blip in September, Tottenham look very much back on track. The London club host Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon who already look destined for the drop straight back down to the EFL Championship.

Spurs have won their last two league games, away to Huddersfield and Brighton, and will be confident of making it a hat-trick in front of their own fans. Cardiff, meanwhile, are still without a win this season and have lost their last five matches in a row across all competitions.

Unsurprisingly, it is Tottenham who come in as the favourites to take the points at Wembley Stadium. You can back Spurs to win at just 1.25 while Cardiff, to give you an idea of the magnitude of their task, are out at 15.00 to pick up their first league victory of the campaign.

This should be a comfortable afternoon for Spurs. A 3-0 win for the home side is priced at 8.50, meaning that a US$5 bet would lead to a US$42.50 pay out.

Liverpool and Manchester City meet in early season marker

This will be a game few people are likely to miss. Liverpool and City both have 19 points from seven games, with City currently top on goal difference – Guardiola’s side have scored an incredible 21 goals already, at a rate of three goals per game.

Following a blistering start, Liverpool have stumbled somewhat of late. They were eliminated from the League Cup by Chelsea and this past week lost 1-0 away to Napoli in the UEFA Champions League – the Reds are without a win in their last three games across all competitions.

City, on the other hand, look to be finding their stride. The defending Premier League champions won their last four matches in a row across all competitions, including a 5-0 thrashing of Cardiff City.

The betting is incredibly close in this one, but Liverpool come in as ever so slight favourites. The Reds are at 2.62 to take the points, with City only just higher at 2.70 – a draw would look to be the least likely result and is priced accordingly at 3.60.

And with home advantage, we are expecting Liverpool to just nick this one – they have, after all, won their last three matches in a row against Manchester City, including a 3-0 win at Anfield last season in the Champions League. A 2-1 win for Liverpool is priced competitively at 11.00, with Daniel Sturridge at 2.20 to score at any time during the game.
