UCL: Idowu, Awaziem Benched As Liverpool, Barca, Dortmund Record Big Wins

Super Eagles duo of Brian Idowu and Chidozie Awaziem were unused substitutes for their respective teams, Locomotiv Moscow and FC Porto who clashed at the Locomotiv stadium in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

 

FC Porto defeated Locomotiv Moscow 3-1 to top Group D after three rounds of matches.

Moussa Marega and Hector Herrera both scored in the 26th and 35th minute to hand FC Porto a 2-0 lead.

 

Hector Herrera halved the deficit in the 38th minute with a lovely strike before Jesus Corona wrapped up the win two minutes into the second half.

 

Solomon Kverkveliya was sent off in the 76th minute of the encounter. Idowu has made one appearance for Locomotiv Moscow this season while Awaziem is yet to feature for FC Porto this season.

 

The other group game D involving Galatasaray and Schalke 04 ended goalless at the Telcom stadium in Turkey.

 

At Anfield, Liverpool recorded their second win in the group stages of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions’ League group stage on Wednesday defeating Red Star Belgrade 4-0.

 

Roberto Firmino scored the opener for Liverpool in the 20th minute before a second half brace from Mohamed Salah and another strike from Saido Mane secured a comfortable win over the Serbia side in group C.

 

In the other group C game, Angel Di Maria scored a 90th minute equalizer to earn Paris Saint Germain a 2-2 draw at home to Napoli.

 

Lorenzo Insigne got the visitors, Napoli off to a good start in the 29th minute but the Italian side were pegged back shortly after the hour mark through an own goal from Mario Rui.

 

Dries Mertens scored what looked like the winner in the 77th minute for Carlo Ancellotti’s side but Di Maria late strike earned PSG a point from the encounter.

 

At the Camp Nou, Barcelona defeated Inter Milan 2-0 to gain top spot in group B. A goal in each half from Rafinha and Jordi Alba secured a third win in the group stages of the competition.

 

The win extended Barcelona’s unbeaten run at home in the UEFA Champions League to 28 games.

 

Both teams will clash at the San siro stadium in a fortnight on match-day 4.

 

In Group A, Atletico Madrid suffered a 4-0 thumping in the hands of Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park.

 

Raphael Guerreiro scored twice while strikes from Axel Witsel and Jadon Sancho secured a comfortable win for Borussia Dortmund.
