A 68-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 6-year-old girl. The suspect is said to be the victim’s neighbour.
The incident happened Maake outside Tzaneen, Limpopo, South Africa.
Limpopo cops spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspect lured the child to his house and raped her. He then offered her a packet of chips in exchange for her silence.
The parents of the child after noticed a change in the behaviour of the child.
Upon being questioned, she divulged the whole ordeal.
Ngoepe said the police were immediately notified, a case of rape was opened and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit started with their initial investigations until the suspect was arrested at his home.
The suspect will appear before the Lenyenye Magistrate Court on Thursday to face a charge of rape.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has send a stern warning to all the perpetrators of violent and sexual crimes against women and children that their days are numbered unless they stop their heinous acts.
“Members of the community must come on board and support the police in their endeavour to deal with all categories of gender-based violence,” said Ledwaba.
