Dennerby Targets Successful AWCON Title Defence

Super Falcons coach, Thomas Dennerby is targeting a successful title defence when the 11th edition of the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations, billed for Ghana kicks off from the 17th November to the 1st of December, 2018 reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

 

Dennerby who was appointed head coach of the Super Falcons in January will be leading the Super Falcons to the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations, for the first time.

The Super Falcons are the most successful team in the history of the Africa Women Cup of Nations-winning eight out of the ten titles and Dennerby will be aiming to with the ninth title for Nigeria.

“We are almost with a full house now and every player in camp have really been doing well,” Dennerby said during the team’s first media parley with the members of the press at Jubilee Charlets Resort, Epe, Lagos.

 

“We are determined as a team not to only impress in Ghana but also successfully defend our title,”

Dennerby also praised the Nigerian Football Federation for providing a serene camp for the Super Falcons preparation.

“We love our camp (Jubilee Chalets) and are very pleased to be here. We appreciate the NFF and the Lagos State Government for offering us this serene place.”

Nigeria is drawn to play South Africa, Kenya, and Zambia in Group B of the 11th Women Africa Cup of Nations, with Cape Coast as the venue, starting with an opening encounter against the Banyana Banyana on Sunday, 18th November. They will face Zambia and Kenya in their remaining two games.

Meanwhile, nine foreign-based professionals on Wednesday joined up with the rest of the home-based players in camp. These players trained under the watchful eyes of Dennerby and his assistants, as the team prepares for the tournament.

 

The players are Charity Adule, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Osinachi Ohale, Josephine Chukwunonye, Rita Chikwelu, Ogonna Chukwudi, Ebere Orji, Chinaza Uchendu, Faith Michael, Ngozi Okobi and Halimat Ayinde.
